Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Cleaning Service
Six Questions to Ask Before You Let a Cleaning Company Into Your Home
Most people pick a cleaning service based on price and availability and then figure out everything else later. That works out fine sometimes. Other times you end up with an uninsured crew, supplies you have to buy yourself, or no clear plan when something goes wrong. Asking the right questions up front takes about five minutes and saves a lot of headaches.
These are the questions I'd tell any neighbor in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, or anywhere else in North Alabama to ask before they book.
1. Are You Insured?
This is the first question, not the last. A cleaning crew is inside your home touching your belongings, your furniture, and your floors. If something breaks or someone is injured on your property, you want a company that carries liability insurance. Ask directly: do you carry liability insurance and can you show proof? A reputable service will say yes without hesitation. If the answer is vague or the person changes the subject, that is your answer.
Freshline Cleaning Co. is insured. We will tell you that plainly and move on.
2. Who Is Actually Coming Into My Home?
Some companies send a different person every visit. Others use subcontractors rather than employees. That affects consistency and accountability. Ask whether the people entering your home are employees or independent contractors, and whether the same person or team typically handles your home each time. Consistency matters more than most people realize, especially if you have kids, pets, or specific routines you want respected.
In Huntsville and Madison especially, with so many Redstone Arsenal families and aerospace contractors coming and going, we get this question often. People who are new to the area want to know exactly who is showing up. That is a fair and smart ask.
3. Do You Bring Your Own Supplies and Equipment?
Do not assume. Some services expect you to have a mop, a vacuum, and a full set of cleaning products waiting for them. Others bring everything. Ask clearly what they bring and what they expect you to provide.
Our crew brings all supplies and equipment to every job. Everything we use is eco-friendly and non-toxic, which matters if you have children or pets at home. You do not need to buy anything or clear out a cabinet for us.
4. How Do You Handle Access to My Home?
You have a few options: you can be home during the clean, leave a key, or share a door code. Ask the company how they manage each of those. Specifically, ask how keys are stored, who has access to your code, and whether any of that information is shared with people outside the company.
A good answer covers all three scenarios and feels straightforward. A vague answer, or one that puts all the responsibility back on you, is worth paying attention to. We are happy to walk through our access process with any client before booking, so there are no surprises on either side.
5. What Exactly Is Included in Each Service?
This one catches people off guard. Standard house cleaning, deep cleaning, and move-in/move-out cleaning are not the same thing, and what one company calls a deep clean another calls a basic wipe-down. Ask for a specific list of what is included and what costs extra.
For example, our standard house cleaning covers regular maintenance tasks throughout the home. Our deep cleaning goes further into grout, baseboards, inside appliances, and areas that build up over time. A move-in/move-out clean is the most thorough option and is built for empty homes, which is something we handle regularly in Harvest, Meridianville, and Owens Cross Roads given all the new construction and relocation traffic in those areas. Knowing which service fits your situation before you book prevents disappointment on the day.
6. What Happens if Something Is Missed or Damaged?
This is the question people feel awkward asking but should not skip. Ask what the company does if a cleaner misses a room, leaves a surface untouched, or accidentally breaks something. A confident, clear answer means they have dealt with this before and have a process. A defensive or dismissive answer tells you a lot.
We back every clean with a satisfaction guarantee. If something was missed, we come back and fix it. If something is damaged, we handle it directly. That is the only fair way to run this.
